Striking Distance Studios has launched a significant update to its popular survival-horror game, The Callisto Protocol. With the release of version 1.11, players will experience a host of changes and improvements, including the highly anticipated Hardcore mode.
The Hardcore mode will test even the bravest of players, as they face an increase in difficulty levels. They will find that ammo, health, and credits are harder to come by, and not all Biophages will drop loot. The enemy damage has been increased, while the damage from the Stun Baton has decreased. The enemy mutation speed has also been increased, making the game even more challenging.
To reward those who complete the standard Hardcore mode playthrough, there is a New Game Plus mode available, along with new achievements and trophies to earn. The update also includes fixes for players who were not awarded the “The Protocol is About Life” achievement after completing the game.
In addition to the Hardcore mode, players can look forward to localization fixes for leveling and voice-over/subtitle mismatches, optimized enemy combat AI, and improved font rendering and UI elements for better readability on the Steam Deck. The PC version of the game will also see ray tracing performance improvements.

Hardcore Mode
A challenging take on The Callisto Protocol’s survival-horror experience, intended to push you to your limits, Hardcore mode is not for the faint of heart. Here’s what you can expect;
- Ammo, health and credits are harder to come by and not every Biophage will drop loot.

- Optimized enemy combat AI when player is surrounded by multiple enemies

- Updated font rendering and UI elements for readability
- Created a rendering functionality profile specifically for Steam Deck with the best settings for smooth gameplay
- Updated control schemes for SteamDeck controls
PC Specific
- Ray tracing performance improvements
