The Pokémon Company has officially announced that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will release worldwide on October 16, 2025, marking one of the most anticipated entries in the franchise’s recent history. The title will be available on both Nintendo Switch and the newly introduced Nintendo Switch 2, offering players options for enhanced gameplay experiences across generations.
Originally revealed during a Pokémon Presents broadcast in February 2024, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a mainline action role-playing game developed by Game Freak, and is the second entry in the Legends sub-series, following Pokémon Legends: Arceus in 2022. This title continues the series’ more open and dynamic approach to world design and battle systems, while returning players to the Kalos region, which debuted in Pokémon X and Y (2013). The entire game is set within Lumiose City, reimagined as a sprawling, immersive urban environment inspired by Paris, France.
In addition to standard Nintendo Switch availability, a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will launch simultaneously, offering visual upgrades, improved frame rates, and likely performance enhancements that take advantage of the newer system’s hardware capabilities. For current Switch users, digital and physical versions of the game will be eligible for an upgrade pack, allowing players to transition to the Switch 2 Edition without needing to repurchase the full game.
