RedFall Review Embargo Set Just Before Launch; First Review Posted Early, Receives Low Score

Xbox Game Studios is gearing up for the highly anticipated release of RedFall, the next big game from the studio following Minecraft Legends. As the review embargo is set to lift on May 1st at 8:00 PM PST, one YouTuber has already broken the embargo by sharing an early review. Amidst growing anticipation, concerns surrounding the game’s quality and a 30 FPS limit on Xbox Series consoles at launch have emerged.

RedFall, developed by Arkane Austin, the award-winning team behind Prey and Dishonored, is a single-player and co-op FPS set in an open world. The game is slated for an official release on May 2, with digital copies unlocking 24 hours earlier.

The early review, which has since been made private, awarded the game a score of 6/10. The reviewer praised the story and character abilities but criticized the gameplay as outdated. They also reported a good performance on a PC with a 3070 graphics card, apart from occasional texture-loading issues. The reviewer had not yet completed the game, having played for 20 hours. Update: Two additional early reviews have been posted: Noisy Pixel awards the game a 4/10 score, while Cog Connected rates it at 7.8/10.

RedFall is set in the island town of Redfall, Massachusetts, besieged by vampires. Players must uncover the truth behind the vampires’ appearance while fighting alongside a diverse team of heroes, each with their unique abilities.

The game offers both single-player and co-op multiplayer modes, allowing up to four players to team up and strategize against supernatural threats. Players can customize their characters with upgrades and abilities to suit their playstyle, whether it be guns blazing or stealth combat.
