New World comes as Amazon attempts to reshape the MMO world, offering a different experience compared to titles like Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft. Unfortunately, the long queues might slow players’ progression a little bit, but there are lots of reasons to keep trying.
The new game from Amazon offers deep combat, with a more helpful crafting system compared to its competitors. That means seasoned MMO players might feel a bit overwhelmed by the pace of the game. Here are five things that every beginner needs to know before getting started on New World.
Familiarize Yourself with the Combat Fast
The game’s combat system is similar to an action RPG instead of a regular MMO. Its opening tutorial introduces the player to the basics, although there’s far much more than that. By left-clicking your mouse, you can perform a light attack or continuously hold it to perform a heavy attack. However, Dodging and blocking are essential for survival and you can dodge by clicking the shift button or clicking the right mouse to block.
When you’re up against fast striking enemies or multiple combatants, you’ll need to block more instead of dodging to use less stamina and fight longer. However, dodging remains your best option when fighting an enemy striking slowly but heavily. That’s why you should quickly learn the difference to avoid draining your health fast. You can also chain attacks together once you fully understand the recovery time between every blow, but that can vary with the weapons you use.
Stock Up on Camping Gear and Food
Portions and food are extremely crucial for surviving in New World. The player can add them to their quick slots (3, 4, 5 & 6), making them always easy to use. Keep in mind that different rations or food give you different buffs, with some offering stat benefits while others simply heal you. However, they each require different ingredients and the best foods don’t come easy.
Skin and butcher animals help you improve your skinning profession and you also gain the meat needed for meals in a camping spot or a food table. Camps act as respawn points and also a place to rest as you regain your health. That’s why it’s useful to have the resources ready to set up your camp. Fortunately, camping requires only five green woods and a single flint once you’re at level 5. From here, new tiers will unlock at levels 15, 25, 40, and 55.
Explore Thoroughly
New World doesn’t feature mounts for players to jump on and start exploring the world fast. You won’t even be able to properly swim at the moment, although it features a fast travel system. Fortunately, you can use the system for locations you’ve previously visited, although that cuts down travel times as long as you’ve explored the place thoroughly.
Another way to use fast travel is to recall the inn you’re bound to, although that’s only useful every hour. Remember that the fast travel feature requires you to use Azoth, a fairly limited feature that you earn by completing quests. That means you should avoid using it unless the journey is far. However, exploring helps you find supply crates and useful chests that contain valuable weapons, armor, and crafting materials.
Don’t Overlook Crafting
Tied to food preservation and camping, crafting is an essential part of the New World. Each profession is upgraded when you do something related to it, so it’s worth spending your time collecting herbs, smashing boulders, and cutting down trees. Most of these materials are also useful in completing quests and upgrading your equipment.
In the long run, better crafting tools make you more efficient in gathering, so aim at creating iron crafting tools to keep crafting. The towns are also packed with crafting stations and it’s clear what you need and how that will help you. However, gathering components can consume a lot of time, but you can easily commit to it while traveling in between objectives.
Join a Company
MMO games offer the best experience when you join a team. Fortunately, New World encourages using companies composed of players from one faction. That’s why you should consider joining a company of your choice as some factions are more hardcore compared to others.
To join the company you like, make sure the players involved are from the same faction as you. Once you’re at level 8, you can choose between the Marauders, Covenant, or Syndicate. However, each faction comes with its advantages and disadvantages. However, no company works for every player in New World, so it’s all about picking what works for you. You can also change your faction as desired after every 120 days of playing the game, so it’s important to be certain of the choice you make.
