Following its global launch on April 24, 2025, The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- has received notable praise from critics and players alike. Developed by TooKyo Games in collaboration with Media.Vision Inc., and published globally by Aniplex Inc., the title marks the first original IP from TooKyo Games, led by prominent creators Kazutaka Kodaka (Danganronpa) and Kotaro Uchikoshi (Zero Escape series). Now available on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, the game holds an 85 score on Metacritic for Switch and 84 for PC, signaling a strong reception for the uniquely dark, tactical RPG adventure.
In celebration of the game’s critical success, publisher XSEED Games released a new accolades trailer, highlighting the praise the title has received for its bold genre-blending narrative, branching storylines, and intense tactical combat sequences. Kodaka expressed deep appreciation in a recent statement, reflecting on the five-year journey of the game’s development and the team’s commitment to delivering a one-of-a-kind experience. He encouraged new players to avoid spoilers and experience the game’s twists organically, while also confirming that regular updates are being planned in response to player feedback.
The upcoming patch, whose release date is yet to be announced, introduces several quality-of-life improvements aimed at enhancing the player experience. These include the ability to skip repeated battles on certain routes, faster access past morning and evening bell animations, reduced time required to skip cutscenes, refined battle content in Chapter00_1-100, and general bug fixes. Kodaka emphasized that ongoing updates will continue to fine-tune the game to ensure long-term player engagement.
The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- tells the story of Takumi Sumino, an ordinary teenager thrust into an extraordinary situation when his quiet life in the Tokyo Residential Complex is shattered by a monstrous invasion. Offered strange powers by a mysterious entity called Sirei, Takumi awakens in the Last Defense Academy, a fortified school surrounded by flames and under siege by grotesque enemies. Together with 14 other students, he must defend the school for 100 days, wielding supernatural powers drawn from their own mutated blood, known as Hemoanima.
The game’s thematic core revolves around sacrifice, psychological tension, and survival, delivered through an ambitious mix of narrative-driven exploration and tactical RPG battles. Players are offered multiple story paths, character arcs, and moral choices, with each playthrough revealing different perspectives and outcomes.
The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- is available in both a Standard Edition ($59.99/€59.99) and a Digital Deluxe Edition ($69.99/€69.99), which includes a digital art book and soundtrack.
