The Callisto Protocol appears to have a higher degree of violence, blood, and gore than Dead Space based on a rating from the Australian Classification Board.
They have recently rated the game and given it a Restrict 18+ rating suggesting that it might be a lot gorier than Dead Space. For reference, Dead Space received a Mature 15+ rating from the same board. They cited “strong horror violence” as the reason for the rating while for The Callisto Protocol, they have listed “high impact bloody violence” as the reason.
Here’s what they had to share regarding the violence and gore in the game.
The Callisto Protocol is a narrative-driven, third-person survival horror game set 300 years in the future in which the player controls Jacob Lee, a prisoner thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the player must battle their way to safety to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets around Callisto.
Themes
The player battles monstrous creatures that used to be humans and have been transformed by an unknown cause on Callisto.
Violence
The game features frequent violence, including use of melee and ranged weapons, to kill aggressive monstrous creatures that look human to varying degrees. There are frequently large amounts of blood and gore associated with the violence, including dismemberment.
Language
The film contains use of the word “f**k”.
Based on this description, it doesn’t seem like the game itself will offer a lot of violent scenes, although the gameplay footage so far shows a lot of brutal dismemberments in addition to the main character getting killed in gory ways.
The Callisto Protocol will be published by Krafton Inc and developed by Striking Distance Studios. It is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
