Capcom’s latest remake in the Resident Evil survival horror series, Resident Evil 4, is set to receive a Gold Edition in the near future.
Game critic aggregator Metacritic has added a new listing for Resident Evil 4: Gold Edition, confirming that the remake is getting a brand new edition soon. According to the listing, this new edition is set for release on February 9, 2024.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, as previous entries in the Resident Evil series have also received Gold Editions, including Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village. It is expected to come packed with all of the downloadable content that is currently available for the Resident Evil 4 remake. The DLC is comprised of cosmetics and items that offer an advantage during gameplay. As of writing, no details regarding the pricing of this new edition are available.
Resident Evil 4 is a remake of 2005’s game of the same name, featuring “over-the-shoulder” third-person shooter gameplay akin to the original. It incorporates design elements from the remakes of Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 3 (2020). The remake includes updated visuals for a more intense atmosphere, along with new character designs and environments. It features six control schemes, including one resembling the original game. Puzzles are occasionally required for the player to make progress through the story. In certain sequences, the protagonist, Leon, is required to safeguard the president’s daughter, Ashley.
Unlike in the original, Leon can now move and use weapons simultaneously, facilitating evasion while firing and reloading on the go. Melee attacks are available for injuring and pushing enemies away. A new parrying mechanic allows Leon to block, counterattack, and dispatch downed enemies with his knife. Unlike the original, Leon’s knife has a durability meter; if broken, players must consult the Merchant for repairs or durability enhancement. Multiple types of knives with various attributes can be carried by Leon.
