PS5/PC Versions Of MediaMolecule’s Dreams Were Allegedly Ready To Ship, But Got Canceled

PS5 and PC versions of Sony Interactive Entertainment and MediaMolecule’s Dreams were allegedly ready to ship, but were ultimately canceled.

Speaking during his Twitch stream, Lance McDonald, who is known for his connections in the game industry, stated that Dreams was once going to be ported to PC, and an enhanced PS5 version with ray tracing as well as keyboard and mouse support was also planned at the time.

Dreams ps5 pc canceled

McDonald claims a friend of his who worked at MediaMolecule had mentioned to him some time ago that a PC port of Dreams had already been finished and a PS5 version was also being worked on. The source was involved in testing the PC port. However, after MediaMolecule was hit with layoffs, McDonald’s friend informed him that both the PC and PS5 ports of Dreams had been canceled, despite being ready to ship.

This doesn’t come as a surprise, given how the developer had decided to discontinue live support for Dreams after September 1, 2023. MediaMolecule  made the announcement back in April, 2023, with the aim to shift its focus to an “exciting new project”. It was probably around the same time that the alleged PS5 and PC ports of Dreams were canceled.

For the uninitiated, Dreams is a game creation system developed by Media Molecule and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 in February 2020. It allows players to create and play user-generated content such as games, audiovisual experiences, and game assets. These creations can be shared or remixed for use in other players’ projects. The game features various titles developed by Media Molecule within Dreams itself, including Art’s Dream, Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale, A Long Climb Ago, virtual reality mini-games, and Tren. Players navigate the game world and interface through an “imp,” which functions as a mouse cursor. The imp is used to create new items and characters, as well as manipulate objects by grabbing and pulling them.
