New Resident Evil 9 Rumor Suggests Leon’s Role, Timeline Split, and TGS Reveal

Fresh speculation has surfaced regarding Resident Evil 9: Requiem, with notable insider Dusk Golem once again at the center of the discussion. This time, his remarks were shared in a video by the YouTube channel Residence of Evil, who claim to have reached out directly to him for further details. While many of the insights reaffirm earlier leaks, several new points have sparked renewed discussion within the fan community.

According to Dusk Golem, Leon S. Kennedy will appear older in the upcoming title, sporting greying hair, stubble, and a black jacket. His chapters will not follow the open-world design rumored for Grace Ashcroft’s sections, but they will reportedly feature larger, more expansive areas compared to hers. One of Leon’s missions will even incorporate vehicle traversal, drawing comparisons to the boat sequence in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Gameplay in Leon’s segments is said to lean toward a mix of action and horror. Unlike the more extravagant set pieces of past entries, such as the possessed statues of Resident Evil 4 or the mechanical battles of Resident Evil Village, Requiem is allegedly pursuing a more grounded tone. Dusk Golem suggested fans might find similarities to the pacing and style of The Last of Us Part II.

Perhaps the most striking claim concerns the game’s narrative structure. Leon’s storyline is rumored to take place primarily in 2020, while Grace’s campaign occurs eight years later, in 2028. Despite this, the two arcs will not be separate campaigns but rather intertwined elements of one overarching narrative. Residence of Evil also echoed these details, noting that their own sources may have heard similar information.

As for when fans might see this in action, Dusk Golem indicated that Leon could be formally revealed at Tokyo Game Show, with pre-orders expected to open during Capcom’s September 28 panel. He also dismissed recent circulating artwork depicting Leon with an eyepatch, confirming that the image is fake—a claim backed by Residence of Evil’s own sources.

Resident Evil 9: Requiem was officially announced at Summer Game Fest 2025. The game introduces new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent investigating a mysterious series of deaths at a hotel. It is currently scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2.
