Aspyr has released Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first time the two Middle-earth action games have been available on a Nintendo platform.
Both games are available individually or together through the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle, with each release including its previously released downloadable content and bonus material. To mark the launch, the bundle is available for 50% off on the Nintendo eShop until 5 October.
The Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle is currently priced at $34.99, reduced from $69.99. Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition is available separately for $9.99, down from $19.99, while Shadow of War Definitive Edition costs $24.99, reduced from $49.99.
In Shadow of Mordor, players take control of Talion, a Ranger of the Black Gate who is killed alongside his family following Sauron’s return to Mordor. Brought back by a mysterious spirit, Talion sets out on a personal quest for revenge while investigating the identity of his supernatural companion and the origins of the Rings of Power.
The game is built around the Nemesis System, which generates individualised enemies that can develop, gain strength, adapt to the player’s actions, and remember previous encounters. This system forms a central part of Talion’s journey through the open-world regions of Mordor.
The Game of the Year Edition includes the Lord of the Hunt and The Bright Lord campaign expansions, as well as the Guardians of the Flaming Eye Warband Mission and additional Warband missions, Runes, and character skins.
Shadow of War expands on the first game’s systems with a larger-scale adventure centred around the creation of a new Ring of Power. Players can conquer fortresses, build armies, dominate enemies, and battle Sauron’s forces across Mordor.
The Definitive Edition includes the Sword of Dominion bonus weapon alongside the Desolation of Mordor and Blade of Galadriel story expansions. It also contains the Slaughter Tribe and Outlaw Tribe Nemesis expansions.
The Switch 2 version of Shadow of War has been designed for offline play, with the Garrison allowing players to reassign undeployed Orc followers between regions. However, this edition does not include Online Conquests, Vendettas, Fight Pits, Chests, or Training Orders.
Both Middle-earth titles are available now on Nintendo Switch 2, with the 50% launch discount for the individual games and bundle running until 5 October.
