Microsoft had reportedly renegotiated the Indiana Jones game’s license terms with Disney in order to make it Xbox/PC exclusive after acquiring Bethesda.
In an interview with Axios Gaming author Stephen Totilo, Disney’s Gaming Director, Sean Shoptaw, mentioned that Microsoft had requested to renegotiate the license terms for Indiana Jones with the company in order to make it Xbox/PC exclusive after it had acquired Bethesda and, in turn, the game’s development studio, MachineGames.
Shoptaw stated that, with Xbox still being one of the bigger marketplaces for games, Disney didn’t feel like the Indiana Jones game would end up being overly exclusionary. He felt that the game would still reach a broad set of gaming audiences, and also felt that, at the time, it made sense from a financial and strategic perspective.
It looks like similar negotiations may be underway between Microsoft and Disney in order to work out Xbox/PC exclusivity for the recently announced Marvel’s Blade. It is said to be a third-person action game that is in development at Arkane Lyon. Aaron Greenberg, Vice President of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft, had recently changed his Twitter/X profile picture to promotional artwork for Marvel’s Blade that hinted at the title’s Xbox exclusivity.
In the picture, the protagonist, Blade, is seen wearing a pair of sunglasses with the Xbox logo visible on them, implying that the game will be associated with the Xbox brand, possibly as a console exclusive. However, oddly enough, Greenberg later replaced the updated profile picture with his own photo shortly after making the change for unknown reasons.
Earlier, it was reported that Microsoft and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title is being developed using Unreal Engine. This is according to a recent job opening for the position of Lead Level Designer, which required candidates to have some experience with the Unreal Level Editor.
