Speculation is mounting that Nintendo is preparing to host a significant Nintendo Direct broadcast in the coming weeks. Citing multiple sources with a history of accurate reporting, the presentation is rumored to be scheduled for the second week of September, marking the company’s first major showcase since the launch of the new Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Industry analyst NateTheHate, a prominent voice on social media, pointed to a date “on or around Sept 11 or 12th, 2025,” as the likely broadcast window. He also clarified that, to his knowledge, this will be the only Direct event held by the company during the month, contrary to other theories circulating online about a more frequent schedule. This information aligns with a similar report from insider SwitchForce, who had previously teased September 12 as a key date for a big announcement. SwitchForce referred to the anticipated event as “the big one,” distinguishing it from the company’s smaller Partner Showcase in July and the Indie World presentation in August.
The timing of the rumored event is noteworthy as it comes just before the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game on September 13, 2025. This has led many to speculate about possible announcements related to the iconic franchise during the presentation, perhaps in the form of a new game or an anniversary project.
Looking ahead to potential third-party reveals, NateTheHate said that a release of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch 2 is still expected, though he was not certain of any new developments regarding The Witcher 3. Historically, Nintendo has used its September Directs to build momentum for its fourth-quarter releases and to unveil major first-party projects. The company’s development teams have focused on quality over rapid expansion in recent years, a strategy that could be highlighted by new software reveals.
While Nintendo has not yet officially confirmed the presentation, it typically announces these broadcasts only a short time before they air.
