Kojima Productions’ OD and Physint might face delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, as production has been suspended for these games.
Hideo Kojima provided fans with a detailed update on the challenges and achievements of 2024, including the ongoing strike, which has impacted several projects at Kojima Productions.
In a heartfelt message, Kojima thanked fans for their unwavering support throughout a busy year. He highlighted significant progress in Death Stranding 2, such as the release of its second trailer, actor ADR, music production, and Japanese voice recording. Kojima mentioned that the team has actively been working on and refining the game, with excitement further fueled by a Tokyo Game Show stage event—his first in five years.
Kojima also revealed that development for OD and Physint faced setbacks in the latter half of the year due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Scanning and filming for OD were suspended, and casting for Physint remains on hold, with plans to resume work once the strike concludes.
Apart from game development, Kojima continued to make his mark on various creative fronts. Notably, preparations for the live-action Death Stranding film with A24 are underway, along with other adaptations. His essays for anan and Nikkei newspapers, appearances on radio programs like Hide Radio ♾ and KOJI10, and the “Death Stranding Exhibition” at Shibuya PARCO reflect his diverse creative endeavors.
The Death Stranding Exhibition will expand to Nagoya and Osaka in 2025, allowing more fans to explore the universe Kojima has crafted. Despite a packed schedule, Kojima managed to organize the Hidemys 2024 book fair and shared his thoughts on movies and novels, albeit at a slower pace.
OD was originally announced during an Xbox event and was presumed to be an Xbox exclusive. Physint is a new joint project between Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment after their successful collaboration on Death Stranding. Both of these games are far from their official release, while Death Stranding 2 is the next project close to launch and planned for PS5.
