Frontier Developments plc, based in Cambridge, UK, has announced the upcoming release of ‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin’, a major real-time strategy game. The game, developed in partnership with Games Workshop®, is set to launch on PlayStation® 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Set in the expansive fantasy universe of Age of Sigmar, ‘Realms of Ruin’ will allow players to command four unique factions in dynamic real-time battles. The game features a story-driven singleplayer campaign and offers 1v1 and 2v2 cross-platform online multiplayer modes.
The game is set in Ghur, the savage Realm of Beasts, a violent land where survival is a challenge. The singleplayer campaign follows the celestial champions, the Stormcast Eternals, as they strive to reclaim this realm. The campaign’s narrative, co-written with Black Library author Gavin Thorpe, is based on the Dawnbringer Crusades from the tabletop game’s most recent edition.
‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin’ has been developed simultaneously for both console and PC. The game introduces DirectStep™, an innovative real-time strategy interface that enables tactical immediacy in the heat of battle. This system provides Xbox and PlayStation® users with the flexibility and responsiveness of mouse and keyboard controls.
The game offers a diverse range of mission types and modes, ensuring no two battles are the same. Players can rally their armies, unleashing powerful units to turn the tides of war in their favour. The game also features Arcane Conduits for resource harvesting, tech trees for force upgrades and specialisation, and multiple fronts for controlling the battle.
Every unit in ‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin’ is precisely modelled based on their tabletop counterparts, with world-class animation and state-of-the-art graphical fidelity. The game provides players with a dramatic and thrilling vision of the Age of Sigmar universe.
Further information about ‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin’, including additional factions, modes, and features, will be revealed in the coming months, with the first gameplay trailer arriving in June. Two open multiplayer betas are planned across all platforms, with dates to be revealed soon. Players can register their interest at www.aosrealmsofruin.com.
