Famitsu has a new preview for Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster and the screenshots from the preview appear to showcase a moderate upgrade.
Final Fantasy VI is one of the last games to get the pixel remaster treatment from Square Enix, but they might be going the extra mile with this one and adding more than a simple pixel upgrade. One of the screenshots, the famous Opera scene in FFVI, was seen in the Famitsu preview article and it shows completely revamped graphics in the new 2D-HD engine that was seen in Octopath Traveler and the upcoming Project Triangle.
The comparison below is for the Opera scene in the original release and the pixel remaster.
Another screen shows the opening scene that features the Magitek armor marching towards Narshe. It doesn’t appear to feature the same 2D-HD upgrade seen in the Opera scene, so this might vary on certain sequences in the game.
FFVI Pixel Remaster is also listed as coming in Winter 2021, so a release date is possibly going to be announced soon.
