Alleged details about Far Cry 7 have surfaced online, courtesy of a Reddit user claiming access to now-deleted casting documents. According to the leak, the game will center on the Bennet family—a wealthy clan embroiled in a cutthroat power struggle akin to HBO’s Succession. The Bennets include six members: Layla, Dax, Brie, Christian, Henry, and Krista, though their exact roles remain unclear.
The leak identifies primary antagonist Ian Duncan as a “charismatic conspiracy theorist” leading an army of followers and harboring a “burning envy for the wealthy elite.” Secondary characters include John Mackay and Dr. Safna Kazan, though their connections to the Bennets are unspecified. Notably, references to New England in the casting calls suggest the franchise may abandon its recent tropical locales for a Northeastern U.S. setting, possibly blending dense forests, coastal towns, and rural strongholds.
Since its 2004 debut under Crytek, Far Cry has evolved into Ubisoft’s flagship anthology series, known for sprawling open worlds and memorable villains. The games typically pit players against despots in hostile environments, emphasizing survival, guerrilla combat, and wildlife threats. While narratives rarely interconnect, staples like the Dunia Engine (a modified CryEngine) and co-op multiplayer have defined the franchise.
Recent entries, however, faced criticism for repetitive mechanics despite strong sales. A shift to domestic turf like New England—a first for the mainline series—could refresh the formula. Leaks also hint at returning features such as user-generated maps and competitive multiplayer, though details remain unconfirmed.
Far Cry 7 may be revealed this year. Ubisoft is currently focused on launching Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is set to release in March.
