Microsoft and Bethesda Game Studios’ next entry in The Elder Scrolls series, The Elder Scrolls VI, may arrive day one on PlayStation.
Speaking during the latest episode of the XboxEra podcast, colteastwood brought up that Microsoft Gaming CEO had mentioned during the Activision Blizzard King acquisition court case proceedings that The Elder Scrolls VI would be exclusive to Xbox within the console space. The Verge’s Tom Warren commented on this by stating that he doesn’t believe The Elder Scrolls VI will be console exclusive to Xbox, suggesting that it will also arrive on PlayStation.
Warren further stated that the thing that needs to be understood is that not every Xbox first party game will become multiplatform. He said that it will happen on a case-by-case basis, depending on what makes sense. Sikamikanico added by saying that previously multiplatform titles are likely to be released on consoles besides Xbox, as those IPs already have a player base on those platforms.
Previously, Bruce Nesmith, lead designer of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, senior systems designer for Starfield, and former overall design director at Bethesda Softworks, had shared during an interview that game systems developed in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim would be further developed for The Elder Scrolls VI. He mentioned his involvement in these elements, stating that his “fingerprints” would be evident.
Nesmith discussed the Magic system from Skyrim, mentioning that he convinced Todd Howard to allow him to redesign it entirely. He expressed Todd’s trust in him for this task and expected remnants of his design philosophy in The Elder Scrolls VI. He clarified that while the idea wasn’t solely his, he played a significant role in its conception. As per him, Bethesda’s development team would build upon existing concepts for player leveling and other game systems, while also incorporating new ideas. He expected some of the systems he worked on to persist in the next entry.
