The highly anticipated ROG Xbox Ally handheld consoles from ASUS are set to become available for preorder beginning August 20, 2025, according to newly leaked information. This development follows several earlier reports suggesting a launch window sometime during the second half of the year, but this is the first time a specific date has been pinpointed.
The latest details come from Dealabs, in collaboration with the well-known leaker @billbil_kun. Together, they confirmed not only the preorder date but also the European pricing for both models. The standard ROG Xbox Ally will retail for 599 euros, while the more advanced Xbox Ally X will be priced at 899 euros. These figures match earlier leaks that had surfaced via insider eXtas1s and a now-removed listing from an authorized ASUS retailer in Spain.
According to the report, the preorder announcement is expected to coincide with Xbox’s scheduled live broadcast on August 20 at 3:00 PM (French time). The segment will reportedly highlight the ROG Xbox Ally line, making it a strategic opportunity for both companies to announce availability and confirm launch specifics.
While pricing in US dollars and British pounds remains unknown for now, the leak provides a clearer understanding of how ASUS and Xbox plan to position these devices within the portable gaming market. The consoles were originally introduced at an Xbox showcase earlier this year, during which Xbox Corporate Vice President Roanne Sones emphasized the company’s direction toward a more accessible, mobile gaming experience.
“Everything at Xbox starts with the player,” Sones stated, reaffirming the brand’s commitment to initiatives like Xbox Play Anywhere, Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. This collaboration with ASUS marks Xbox’s next major step into hardware that allows players to take their libraries and subscriptions on the go.
The ROG Xbox Ally lineup features two configurations. The base model is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a 512GB SSD. In contrast, the high-end Xbox Ally X includes an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. It also introduces impulse triggers for more precise gameplay and a larger 80Wh battery compared to the 60Wh battery in the standard version.
Both devices share a seven-inch Full HD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and FreeSync Premium support. Additionally, the Xbox Ally X offers improved connectivity with its USB4 Type-C port that supports Thunderbolt 4, giving it a notable advantage for those requiring faster data transfer and peripheral support.
Though Microsoft and ASUS have yet to issue official statements regarding the preorder announcement or final launch plans, the mounting evidence indicates that the August 20 reveal will mark a significant milestone for the project. With Gamescom 2025 happening around the same time, the timing appears intentional, likely designed to capture the attention of the global gaming community.
