Rockstar Abandons Plans To Remaster GTA IV and RDR Following The Poor Reception to GTA Trilogy

Rockstar Games was planning to remaster GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, but they had to abandon them after the failure of the GTA Trilogy.

While GTA Trilogy has been financially a success for Rockstar Games, it hasn’t fared well critically and the launch of the game was full of major game-breaking bugs that were being reported across social media. It was a technical disaster with a poor performance even on the current-generation consoles.

It appears that based on the reception of the GTA Trilogy, Rockstar Games might not release a remaster of the first Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV. There have been quite a lot of rumors regarding these two games that they might be getting the remaster treatment, but this time, the latest news suggests that any work that might have gone into their remaster has been shelved.

GTA IV was released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in addition to a PC port later down the line. While the game is still playable on the Xbox One and Xbox Series through backward compatibility, there is no similar port for the PS4 and subsequent consoles. It is possible to play it at 60 FPS with backward compatibility but this can also lead to some glitches including the ending of the game practically being unplayable.

It is also a terrible port on PC and despite the advance in PC gaming hardware, the game can face performance issues due to poor optimization.

GTA Trilogy was a complete remaster of the original 3D GTA games that launched on the PS2. It used a hybrid visual system where the classic look was retained but updated with modern visual makeup. It was not well-received by the fans but the bigger issues were technical rather than graphical.
