Gaming insider NateTheHate has once again spoken out, confirming that an updated version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is still being worked on, pushing back against new doubts after recent project schedules shifted. His comments follow a wave of player discussion after Rockstar’s surprising reveal of a current-generation release for the original Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Some fans took that news as a sign that the Red Dead Redemption 2 update had been scrapped, but the insider disagrees with that reading.
The discussion flared up after a user on social media questioned how reliable previous reports had been. Nate responded by simply saying, “This doesn’t negate RDR2 happening.” In a follow-up post addressing concerns about earlier release date predictions, he added, “I said I was told it would come a few months after SW2 launch—which is info from the start of 2025. GTA6 has since been delayed and R* does whatever they want. Release timelines can change.” His statement makes it clear that while the timing may no longer match initial expectations, the project itself has not been canceled.
For months, NateTheHate has insisted that Rockstar is preparing a native upgrade of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, along with a new version made for the Nintendo Switch 2. He has previously clarified that these plans are separate from the enhanced edition of the first Red Dead Redemption, noting that he was “specifically told” to expect a next-generation update for the sequel. The anticipated upgrades are rumored to include a 60 frames per second mode and improved graphics, features that fans have been asking for since the newer consoles first came out.
Red Dead Redemption 2 first launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in 2019. The game offers a massive depiction of the final years of the American frontier, putting players in the shoes of Arthur Morgan as the Van der Linde gang faces growing pressure from the law and rival groups. Its large world, deep mechanics, and powerful story have contributed to its continued popularity. While the game can currently be played on modern consoles using backward compatibility, it has never received a fully native version for the current generation.
Although Rockstar has not made any official announcement about an enhanced edition of Red Dead Redemption 2, NateTheHate’s continued comments suggest that development is still moving forward. Since the company has a history of changing project schedules based on its internal priorities, the exact release date remains unknown. Even so, excitement for a current-generation update keeps building as players wait for one of Rockstar’s most celebrated works to get the modern technical polish it deserves.
