According to insider Nash Weedle, Nintendo is preparing to announce a new edition of Pikmin 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2, complete with additional content. While the company has yet to confirm this officially, Weedle’s report suggests that Pikmin 4 could be among the next first-party titles to be reintroduced on the upgraded hardware, continuing Nintendo’s push to support the Switch 2 with familiar IPs.
While fans wait for news of the rumored expanded edition, Nintendo has already released a technical update for Pikmin 3 Deluxe, improving its compatibility with the new system. The latest patch, Version 1.1.3, was rolled out on June 16, 2025, and addresses a screen flickering issue that would occur at specific points during gameplay on the Switch 2, including the start and end of a day. Additional refinements have been made to ensure smoother performance overall. This patch has also been applied to the demo version of the game as of July 2.
Despite being one of the more understated franchises in Nintendo’s lineup for years, Pikmin has recently been recognized as a flagship property. During a shareholder Q&A session held in conjunction with Nintendo’s FY2024 financial report, company president Shuntaro Furukawa referred to Pikmin 4, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, as examples of successful flagship releases during the fiscal year. This marked a rare occasion where the company openly emphasized the brand’s importance to its software strategy.
The most recent entry, Pikmin 4, was released in July 2023 and was developed by Nintendo EPD in collaboration with Eighting. It introduced new Pikmin types such as Ice and Glow Pikmin, as well as gameplay features like Night Expeditions and character customization. Players took on the role of a rookie Rescue Corps member tasked with recovering a stranded team, including the series’ long-standing character Captain Olimar.
