According to a new report circulating online, the Nintendo Switch 2 may have already surpassed 12 million units sold worldwide, setting an extraordinary pace just five months after launch. The figure was first shared by a social media post from @PaulGaleNetwork and later discussed by industry insider Nate the Hate, who commented that while the source’s credibility remains uncertain, the number itself is within a realistic range given the system’s strong performance and shipment trends.
Nintendo’s latest official update, published in its November 4, 2025, financial report, confirmed that the Switch 2 had sold 10.36 million units globally as of the end of September. This milestone already made it the fastest-selling console launch in history, outperforming the original Switch’s 4.8 million units sold in a comparable period back in 2017. If the new 12 million figure holds true, it would mean Nintendo shipped approximately 1.6 million additional units during October, a plausible increase considering the company’s preparations for the year-end holiday rush.
Industry analyst Nate the Hate provided further context, explaining that “we know it sold 10.36 [million] by end of September. If they shipped 1.6M in October worldwide, it would be at 12M. One could extrapolate such figures based on the sales rate since launch and then factor they likely shipped more in October and early November for the holiday.” While he emphasized that the claim’s source remains unverified, he described the reported figure as entirely “realistic.”
Launched on June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 has enjoyed a historic debut period, buoyed by major releases such as Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Pokémon Legends Z-A. The hybrid console’s enhanced capabilities—powered by the NVIDIA Tegra T239 chipset—have also drawn praise for delivering performance on par with last-generation home consoles while retaining full portability.
Sales momentum appears particularly strong across North America and Japan, where hardware shortages and preorders extended through late summer. The 10.36 million units reported through September included 5.8 million sales during its launch month and 4.5 million units sold between July and September, prompting Nintendo to raise its fiscal year forecast to 19 million units by March 2026.
If the 12 million mark is accurate, the Switch 2 is already on track to outsell the Wii U’s lifetime total of roughly 13.5 million units before the end of the year—a striking turnaround for a company once struggling to regain its hardware momentum. Whether or not Nintendo confirms this unofficial figure, the Switch 2’s trajectory leaves little doubt that it has become one of the strongest console launches in gaming history, with the holiday season still ahead to push those numbers even higher.
