NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound Launches at 30 FPS on Switch, 60 FPS on All Other Platforms

Dotemu has officially confirmed the technical performance details for NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound, the upcoming side-scrolling spin-off in the long-running NINJA GAIDEN franchise. With just days remaining until its global release, the developer shared that the game will run at a locked 60 frames per second on all platforms except for the Nintendo Switch, where it will launch at 30 FPS.

While the Switch version is fully playable and features the complete content offering, it will average a 30 FPS experience due to hardware limitations. Dotemu has also clarified that the game will be backward compatible on the newly released Switch 2, which is expected to improve performance thanks to its enhanced specifications. However, there is no separate Switch 2 version planned at launch, nor any announced upgrade path, though post-launch support may address this at a later date.

All other platforms—including PC, Steam Deck, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S—will feature a smooth 60 FPS gameplay experience from day one. Dotemu has stated that further technical updates and improvements will be communicated after launch.

NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound is being developed by The Game Kitchen, the Spanish studio best known for Blasphemous, and published by Dotemu in collaboration with Koei Tecmo. This title represents a bold reimagining of the classic NINJA GAIDEN formula, combining the stylized 8-bit combat and lore of the original series with the more intense and layered mechanics found in modern action platformers.

The narrative centers on Kenji Mozu, a young ninja trained by Ryu Hayabusa, who must rise to defend the Hayabusa Village in Ryu’s absence. As demonic forces threaten to overwhelm the world, Kenji forges an unlikely alliance with the Black Spider Clan, tapping into forbidden power to stop the invasion. Players will also be able to control Kumori, a deadly assassin whose fate intertwines with Kenji’s in a shared journey full of treachery and resolve.

The game introduces “Ninja Fusion,” a new mechanic that allows players to combine abilities and deliver devastating attacks. Its side-scrolling design honors the legacy of the franchise while offering refined gameplay systems designed to challenge newcomers and long-time fans alike.

Visually, Ragebound adopts a striking modern pixel art style that brings a reimagined NINJA GAIDEN universe to life with fluid animations and intricate environments. The game captures the gritty tone of the original series, now rendered with modern artistic precision.

Ragebound launches globally in July 2025 on Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. While some compromises were necessary for the base Switch version, players across all platforms can look forward to a challenging, high-octane experience rooted in one of gaming’s most iconic ninja sagas.
