Nightdive Studios has carved a niche for itself in the gaming industry by obtaining rights to abandonware video games. They update these games for compatibility with modern platforms and re-release them via digital distribution services. Founded in November 2012 by Stephen and Alix Kick, former video game artists for Sony Online Entertainment, the company has been instrumental in preserving older games. Notably, Nightdive Studios was acquired by Atari SA in May 2023.
Before delving into the potential remaster, it’s essential to understand what “The Darkness” is. Developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 2K, this first-person shooter was released in 2007 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is based on the comic book series of the same name, published by Top Cow Productions. The Darkness allows players to wield both conventional firearms and supernatural powers.
