Mario Kart World has emerged as a dominant launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, but recent data shows that a significant portion of its success is tied to hardware bundles. According to analyst David Gibson, around 4.5 million of the game’s 5.63 million units sold during the first quarter came through its inclusion in a Switch 2 bundle. This means standalone sales account for approximately 1.13 million units.
The analyst further noted that 77 percent of all Switch 2 consoles shipped during the period were bundled with Mario Kart World, highlighting the strong synergy between the console and its flagship racing game. Overall, Nintendo shipped 5.82 million Switch 2 units in Q1, with an impressive sell-through exceeding six million units within the first seven weeks of launch.
Nintendo previously confirmed these figures in its Q1 FY2026 financial report, emphasizing the record-breaking debut of the Switch 2. The console launched globally on June 5, 2025, and set a new company milestone for the highest-ever global hardware sales in the first four days, reaching 3.5 million units during that initial window.
Software performance was equally strong, with total sell-in of 8.67 million units across both first-party and third-party titles. Mario Kart World was the clear standout, serving as a major driver of these numbers. The title’s integration into bundles has undoubtedly played a key role in these early results, but its standalone performance remains impressive for a launch quarter.
