Naughty Dog game director Neil Druckmann has “no comment” on the existence of The Last of Us Part 3, though he said there are other projects in development at the studio.
Speaking during an interview, Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog co-president and game director, stated that The Last of Us is a world he loves deeply, and he knows his co-workers at the studio and fans do as well.
However, he mentioned that he currently has “no comment” on the possible development of The Last of Us Part 3 or the series’ future beyond the studio’s focus on The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. That said, he did confirm that there are other projects in the works at Naughty Dog in addition to season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation, which will based on the events of The Last of Us Part II.
Given how successful The Last of Us IP has become over the years, a third entry is highly likely to happen. However, it’s logical for Naughty Dog’s co-president to be focusing on projects that are nearer to release.
Previously, in response to a tweet that criticized the lack of development of new IPs from Naughty Dog, VGC editor Jordan Miller stated that, based on what his source told him, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was more of a project for new hires to get them up to speed with the development process at the studio. He added that game director Neil Druckmann and his team are well into the development of an original title. It’s hard to say whether this original title is one of the projects Druckmann referred to during his interview.
According to Miller, the existence of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered does not take away from the development process of the unannounced original title. He didn’t have anything further to add regarding the aforementioned title, however.
