22cans has announced that Masters of Albion will launch on April 22, 2026, releasing exclusively on PC via Steam. The confirmation was shared alongside a new release date trailer that highlights the game’s core structure, which contrasts calm, creative world building during the day with intense survival focused combat when night falls.
Led by veteran designer Peter Molyneux, Masters of Albion is positioned as a modern reimagining of the classic god game genre. The development team includes several well known industry figures, such as Mark Healey, Russell Shaw, Iain Wright, and Kareem Ettouney, all of whom previously worked on influential titles including Dungeon Keeper, Black and White, and Fable. According to the studio, the project draws heavily on that legacy while adapting its ideas to contemporary systems and player expectations.
Set in the land of Albion, the game places players in control of a world undergoing rapid transformation. Industrial progress and large scale production are pushing society forward, but remnants of ancient magic and darker forces remain beneath the surface. Players are given the freedom to shape this evolving world either from a godlike perspective or by directly inhabiting characters within it, allowing for both high level planning and hands on interaction.
During the daytime, Masters of Albion focuses on building and management. Players can design towns from the ground up, construct and customize buildings, manage workers, and combine different structures into multi purpose facilities. Construction is immediate, with no timers or artificial delays, encouraging experimentation and iteration as settlements grow from small villages into complex urban centers.
Central to the experience is the God Hand, which allows players to manipulate the world directly. This includes moving objects, influencing or possessing characters, rewarding or punishing citizens, and unleashing destructive forces when necessary. The game emphasizes that while players have near total freedom, their choices carry consequences that shape Albion’s future.
Exploration also plays a major role. Players can observe the world from above or take control of heroes, workers, animals, and other inhabitants to explore on foot. Quests, hidden areas, underground caves, and crafting systems allow players to uncover Albion’s history while equipping heroes with weapons, armor, and custom gear.
As night falls, the tone shifts dramatically. Hostile creatures emerge and attack towns, forcing players to rely on their daytime preparations. Defensive structures, walls, choke points, and armed heroes become essential to survival. Players can also intervene directly by using god powers or possessing heroes to fight enemies in real time, turning each night into a test of planning and adaptability.
Peter Molyneux described Masters of Albion as the culmination of his career, noting that the game builds on ideas explored in his earlier work while aiming to bring the god game genre back into focus for a modern audience. The studio characterizes the project as one built around themes of power and responsibility, freedom of choice, and the tension between industrial progress and ancient magic.
Masters of Albion launches on April 22, 2026 at 18:00 BST and is available to wishlist now on Steam. 22cans has indicated that further updates will be shared through its official social channels and community platforms in the lead up to release.
