Limbo/Inside Developer Shares New Artwork Teasing Its Next Project

Playdead, the developer behind puzzle-platformers Limbo and Inside, has shared new artwork and teased its next project.

The official Twitter/X account for Playdead has invited potential new recruits to meet its development team at the forthcoming GDC 2024. Those who are interested may sign up for a face-to-face or virtual meeting meeting with the developers by following the link here.

The Limbo and Inside developer is specifically hiring for its next project, which has been described on its official site as a 3D, open world, sci-fi adventure set in a remote corner of the universe. The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5.

The artwork shared by Playdead gives vibes similar to the art style in Limbo, with a limited color palette. There appears to be a large vehicle of some sort. The individual standing next to the vehicle appears to be wearing a helmet, suggesting that it may involve exploration on an alien planet.

The development team at Playdead is currently looking for people to join its Code team (Gameplay, Engine, Systems, Tools, QA and Graphics), Gameplay Design team, Art team (Concept, Environment, Layout, Level and Technical) and VFX/Animation team.

Playdead’s previous title, Inside, was initially released on June 29, 2016 for Xbox One and PC, with a subsequent release on July 7 for PlayStation 4 and August 23 for iOS. The game later became available on Nintendo Switch in June, 2018 and on macOS in June, 2020. Players assume control of a boy and explore a dystopian world, solving puzzles and avoiding hazards, reminiscent of the studio’s earlier game, Limbo. Development of Inside began shortly after the release of Limbo, initially using the same custom game engine. However, the team later transitioned to Unity in order to streamline development, implementing their own rendering techniques to establish a distinctive visual aesthetic. The project received partial funding from the Danish Film Institute.
