Industry insider NateTheHate has once again fueled speculation regarding the long-rumored next-generation and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Red Dead Redemption 2, asserting that the projects “exist.” The claim surfaced during a social media exchange in which Nate responded to a question about the certainty of these versions’ development. While he reaffirmed their existence, he clarified that he has “no update on timing for release.”
This renewed discussion follows months of growing anticipation within the community for an enhanced edition of Rockstar Games’ acclaimed open-world Western. Recent backend activity on Red Dead Redemption 2’s Steam and Epic Games store listings in October 2025 has also drawn attention. The updates, which marked the first modifications to the store pages since 2019, have been interpreted by fans as potential signs that Rockstar is preparing for a new announcement, mirroring the company’s previous behavior before unveiling other remasters and ports.
The rumored PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are reportedly intended to deliver performance upgrades that bring the 2018 title up to modern standards. Among the most requested features are a native 60 frames-per-second mode, enhanced textures, faster loading times, and improved visual fidelity. Currently, the game only runs on these consoles via backward compatibility at 30 FPS. Despite these expectations, Rockstar has yet to provide any official confirmation or details on what such an upgrade might include.
Meanwhile, reports persist that Red Dead Redemption 2 is also being adapted for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Several industry figures have suggested that the port is actively in development, potentially aligning with Take-Two Interactive’s broader strategy to increase support for Nintendo’s current-generation hardware. The publisher’s recent efforts, including the release of the original Red Dead Redemption on the Nintendo Switch in 2023, have been cited as evidence of growing collaboration between the companies.
Rockstar Games is known for its tightly controlled announcement strategy, often choosing to reveal major updates independently rather than during large-scale showcases like Nintendo Directs or PlayStation events. This has left fans in a state of constant anticipation, as speculation continues to swirl around when—or if—the long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 ports will finally be confirmed.
