Rockstar Games has seemingly released a new update for GTA IV on Steam. It is believed that this update may address potential security fixes for the game.
It has been quite some time since GTA IV received an update on Steam, making this release a surprise from the publisher. The update appears to be approximately 158 MB or under 500 MB in size. Based on the changes listed on Steam, this update does not appear to be related to the Rockstar Launcher update and does not address the removal of any songs.
GTA IV PC Update Patch Notes [February 9]
These changes refer to modifications made to the Grand Theft Auto IV game and its installers. The changes to the GTAIV/GTAIV.exe, GTAIV/MTLX.dll, GTAIV/PlayGTAIV.exe, GTAIV/gtaEncoder.exe, and GTAIV/installscript.vdf files suggest that updates have been made to these components of the game. Some of the files have increased in size, while others have decreased.
Moreover, the manifest IDs for the game and the installers have changed, indicating significant updates to the overall structure of the game and its components. The modification of the Rockstar Games Launcher and Social Club Setup files also suggests updates have been made to these components, with the Rockstar Games Launcher file increasing by 7.16 MB and the Social Club Setup file increasing by 1.17 MB.
At present, there are no official patch notes available for this update. However, similar patches have been deployed for Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V, which were confirmed to address security issues faced by these titles on PC. There was a major exploit that could compromise the user’s privacy if they played the games online.
In the case of GTA IV, it does not seem that there is any intention to patch the game online, so this update remains somewhat of a mystery. If Rockstar Games releases official patch notes, we will update this article accordingly.
