Elden Ring Publisher Addresses Difficulty Criticism of Shadow of the Erdtree, Offers Tips for DLC

Bandai Namco, the publisher of Elden Ring, recently addressed player concerns regarding the new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. In a concise statement, the publisher recommended that players “level up your Scadutree Blessing.” This response follows reports of increased difficulty and performance issues associated with the DLC.

The message from Bandai Namco, posted on X, directly addressed the Elden Ring fanbase. The statement read, “This is a suggestion,” followed by the advice to “level up your Scadutree Blessing.”

The community’s reaction to Bandai Namco’s message has been mixed. Some players appreciated the straightforward advice, with one user commenting, “The best advice coming straight from the source.” Others perceived the message humorously, interpreting it as a playful critique of their gaming skills. One user jested, “This is the developers’ way of telling us Tarnished we are noob plebs.”

The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has faced criticism due to performance issues on the PC version, resulting in a “mixed” user rating on Steam. Despite the DLC’s impressive presentation and intricate world-building, players have expressed dissatisfaction with capped frame rates, stuttering, and problematic boss mechanics. The aggregate score from nearly 30,000 players reflects these concerns, overshadowing the DLC’s initial acclaim.

In a related development, Hidetaka Miyazaki, President of FromSoftware, shared his interest in developing a traditional Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. Miyazaki clarified that while he is interested in creating a traditional JRPG, it will not be connected to From Software’s 2006 title, Enchanted Arms. This game was directed by Masato Miyazaki, who is now employed at Capcom and is not related to Hidetaka Miyazaki. Reflecting on FromSoftware’s history, Miyazaki emphasized that he does not plan to reinterpret the studio’s past intellectual properties.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X.
