Resident Evil Village Is The Most Successful Launch For The Series on Steam

GIStaffBy GIStaffMay 7, 2021Updated:May 7, 2021No Comments2 Mins Read

Resident Evil Village is incredibly successful for Capcom and it has already broken the concurrent user record for Resident Evil 2 Remake, the previous series high.

After launching on Steam, the game has already reached a new concurrent player count with more than 84K users playing it on its launch day at the time of writing this article. This is a lot higher than the previous record set by Resident Evil 2 Remake, which reached a concurrent peak of 74K. We need to keep in mind that this doesn’t account for the weekend for Resident Evil Village, which will undoubtedly show higher peak concurrent users as more people get the time to play it.

All said, there is no doubt in this that Resident Evil Village is the second most successful launch for Capcom on Steam, just behind Monster Hunter World. If we count the Iceborne expansion as a separate game, then it is the third biggest launch for Capcom on Steam.

Resident Evil series has continued to gain popularity after the success of Resident Evil VII. The subsequent games were all critically praised and resonated with fans. While the series was always incredibly popular, Resident Evil 6 is considered the low point for the franchise.

As a comparison, here is the peak concurrent player content for all the recent Resident Evil games released on Steam.

  • Resident Evil Village – 84K (Will reach higher this weekend)
  • Resident Evil VII – 20K
  • Resident Evil 2 – 74K
  • Resident Evil 3 – 60K

There is no doubt that Capcom will be happy to see these numbers. The game also enjoys a fairly positive rating with a ratio of 85% on Steam.
