No Man’s Sky, an action-adventure survival game, was first released for PlayStation 4 and Windows in August 2016, followed by Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Nintendo Switch releases. The game’s vast, procedurally generated universe offers players the chance to explore over 18 quintillion planets, each with its own unique flora, fauna, and alien species. Gameplay centers around exploration, survival, combat, trading, and base-building.

Inspired by the sense of exploration and optimism found in the 1970s and 1980s science fiction, No Man’s Sky was developed by a small team at Hello Games, with promotional and publishing support from Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game initially received mixed reviews due to missing features, particularly multiplayer capabilities, and Hello Games’ lack of communication following the launch.

In the years since, Hello Games has focused on refining and expanding No Man’s Sky, releasing numerous free content updates that have significantly improved the game’s reception. Among these updates are the addition of multiplayer components, surface vehicles, base-building, space fleet management, cross-platform play, and virtual reality support.
