Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is amazing, but some issues have come along with its release, one of which is error code 887a0005. Fixing this error can be tricky, but it’s not overly difficult. Here are several working fixes to help you get back to the field right away.

How to Fix Black Ops Cold War Error Code 887a0005

You don’t have to try all the fixes listed below; simply find the one that works for you.

1. Scan and Repair Game Files

The error code 887a0005 could mean there is an integrity issue with your game files. To fix it, you need to scan and repair all the missing and corrupted files.

Steps to Scan and Repair:

  1. Go to your Blizzard Battle.net client and select Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from the left menu.
  2. Go to Options and select Scan and Repair from the drop-down menu.
  3. Wait until the check completes.

After following these steps, launch Black Ops Cold War and see if it crashes again. If the problem persists, try the next fix.

2. Install All Windows Updates

A new update (20H2) has been released by Microsoft for Windows 10, including regular security patches and many new features. Keeping your Windows updated helps to avoid many problems.

Steps to Install Updates:

  1. Press Windows + I on your keyboard to open the Windows Settings app. Click Update & Security.
  2. Click Check for Updates. The download will begin and update your Windows.

Note: Repeat this process until the prompt shows that “You are Up-to-date.”

After installing updates, restart your PC and then start Black Ops Cold War to see if it crashes. If this fix doesn’t help, try the next one.

3. Update Your Graphics Driver

A faulty or outdated graphics driver is a common reason for this error. Ensure your graphics driver is up to date to fully experience the game.

Steps to Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Manually: Visit the manufacturer’s website to download the latest drivers.
    • NVIDIA Drivers
    • AMD Drivers
    • Intel Drivers
  • Automatically: Use software like NVIDIA GeForce Experience or AMD Radeon Software.

4. Disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGs)

Microsoft introduced a feature called Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling in the 2004 version of Windows 10. It improves application performance but might cause the 887a0005 error.

Steps to Disable HAGs:

  1. Right-click in the empty area of your desktop and select Display settings.
  2. Select Graphics settings.
  3. Click Change default graphics settings under Default Settings.
  4. Turn off Hardware-Accelerated GPU scheduling.

After completing these steps, start your game and see if the problem is resolved. If not, try the next fix.

5. Disable In-Game Ray Tracing

An overloaded GPU can cause this error. As Black Ops Cold War is a new title, ray tracing might be unstable. Disable this feature to see if the error code disappears.

Steps to Disable Ray Tracing:

  1. Launch Black Ops Cold War and open Settings.
  2. Go to the Graphics tab and disable all three options under the Ray Tracing section.
  3. Restart the game and test the gameplay.

These are the fixes you can try to resolve error code 887a0005 in Black Ops Cold War. I hope one of these fixes helps you stop the crashes so you can enjoy the game peacefully.

None of these worked for me, still get the error with a 2080ti card and a 9900K processor.
