Microsoft Allegedly in Talks to Revive De-Listed Deadpool and Marvel Games on Xbox Store

On a recent episode of the Xbox Era podcast, it was reported that Microsoft is in discussions to re-license and re-release previously delisted Marvel games, including Deadpool and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, on the Xbox store. The co-host of the podcast, Shpeshal Nick, shared details about these ongoing negotiations.

According to Shpeshal Nick, Microsoft is currently in the process of securing the necessary licenses to reintroduce these games to the Xbox platform. Originally launched as Xbox One titles, both Deadpool and Marvel Ultimate Alliance could potentially become available for purchase again and run on Xbox Series consoles via backward compatibility. However, the success of the re-licensing efforts is not guaranteed, and discussions are ongoing.

The potential return of Deadpool to the Xbox store is particularly noteworthy, especially considering the recent success of the Deadpool and Wolverine movie in theaters. Shpeshal Nick highlighted that the character’s popularity could make the game’s re-release a financially rewarding move for Microsoft.

Deadpool is an action-adventure video game based on the Marvel Comics antihero of the same name. It was developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in June 2013. The game’s story follows Deadpool as he teams up with Cable and the X-Men to thwart Mister Sinister’s latest scheme, leading to various comedic adventures. The game features self-referential humor and numerous fourth-wall breaks.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a 2006 action role-playing video game, developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. The game is set within the fictional Marvel Universe and features a large cast of superheroes, supervillains, and supporting characters. Players can create their ultimate superhero team to combat Doctor Doom and his Masters of Evil.

Ultimately, the reintroduction of these games to the Xbox platform could be of significant interest to Marvel and gaming fans alike, offering the potential for an enhanced gaming experience and further exploration of these beloved characters within the Xbox community.
