NetherRealm Studios has stopped working on Injustice 2 for a long time now, and fans are already expecting a third entry. This is why when a sudden update was released for the game on PC and Consoles today on July 20, it was meet with a surprise from the fans.
As people begin wondering what might be in the update, it turned out to be a bunch of nothing. As seen in the patch notes which you can access on the PS4, there is not much to add here.

NetherRealm Studios worked on Mortal Kombat 11 after wrapping up their work on Injustice 2. We have no idea what they are doing now but there are rumors that they might be working on a new fighting game, possibly Injustice 3.
