The unannounced Virtua Fighter reboot is set to feature rollback netcode and modern visuals, based on the latest rumor.
Twitter/X user MbKKssTBhz5, who is known for their inside information on upcoming Sega projects, has shared that the unannounced Virtua Fighter reboot will be online and esports focused, but will feature both online and offline modes, including a customization mode. Additionally, they mentioned that the game will introduce new characters while also sporting a more modern aesthetic
According to the insider, the game concept for the Virtua Fighter reboot has undergone many changes since development began in the year 2021. They mentioned that the implementation of streaming and spectating will be an integral part of the game. Furthermore, they stated that the Virtua Fighter reboot will be released on all major platforms, with modern features such as crossplay and rollback netcode.
The insider mentioned that the Virtua Fighter reboot is being developed with the aim of having it be a competitor to Street Fighter and Tekken, with mechanics and online modes that are similar to those seen in modern fighting games. The game is also said to have a brand new main story along with side stories featuring brand new characters. As per the insider, the reboot is focusing on “scaling with the player and their play styles” when they play online.
The previous entry, Virtua Fighter 5, is the fifth installment in the series. The original version was released on the Sega Lindbergh arcade system board in Japanese arcades on July 12, 2006, following location tests starting from November 26, 2005. The game eventually arrived in arcades outside of Japan in February, 2007.
A revised Version B update was launched in Japanese arcades in December 2006, subsequently ported to the PlayStation 3 in February 2007, coinciding with the European release of the console in March 2007. Version C, released in Japanese arcades in July 2007, was later ported to the Xbox 360 in Europe and North America in October 2007. The Xbox 360 version and online mode, which was absent from the PlayStation 3 release.
