Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Still in Development, Says Saber Interactive

The highly anticipated remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is still in development, according to Saber Interactive. Despite ongoing concerns about its troubled production, Saber’s leadership has confirmed that the project hasn’t been canceled. However, since its initial announcement in 2021, there have been no new updates or footage, leaving fans uncertain about when—or if—the remake will finally be released.

Originally, the KOTOR remake was announced in 2021 with Aspyr leading development. However, reports in 2022 indicated significant issues with the project, leading to its indefinite delay. This prompted Saber Interactive, known for titles like Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, to take over development. Since then, there’s been little official communication about the game’s progress, sparking widespread speculation about its status.

Recently, Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer, Tim Willits, addressed these concerns, confirming that all previously announced projects, including KOTOR, are still in development. While this statement has reassured some fans, the lack of concrete details has left others skeptical about the remake’s future. Willits emphasized that Saber would only share updates when they have “something cool to share,” suggesting that a major reveal is still a ways off.

One possible reason for the silence is Saber Interactive’s growing list of projects. The studio is currently working on several high-profile titles, including John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, a new Turok game, and an Avatar: The Last Airbender project. Additionally, Saber recently announced Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3, which is still in early development, and has committed to supporting Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 post-launch. This heavy workload has led some fans to worry that the KOTOR remake might not be a top priority.

Despite these concerns, Saber’s repeated reassurances suggest that the project is still alive—though it’s unclear how far along development has progressed. For now, fans will have to wait patiently for more concrete news about the fate of this beloved Star Wars classic.
