Capcom’s long-running survival horror franchise, Resident Evil, continues to perform well, based on the latest sales figures.
The publisher has updated its Platinum titles product data on its official site, and sales figures reveal that the Resident Evil series is continuing to perform well. Additionally, Capcom has confirmed during a recent interview that the release of Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition will mark the end of the project. As a result, no further DLC or additional content is planned for the title.
Resident Evil 5 remains the top seller in the series with 14.4 million copies sold, followed by Resident Evil 2 (2019) at 13.6 million copies, Resident Evil 4 (2005) at 13.1 million, Resident Evil 7 at 13 million, Resident Evil 6 at 11.8 million, Resident Evil Village at 9.3 million, Resident Evil 3 (2020) at 8.4 million, Resident Evil 4 (2023) at 6.4 million, Resident Evil (2002) at 5.45 million, Resident Evil 0 at 5.35 million, Resident Evil (1996) at 5.08 million, Resident Evil 2 (1998) at 4.96 million, Resident Evil Revelations at 4.9 million, Resident Evil Revelations 2 at 4.7 million, Resident Evil 3 (1999) at 3.5 million, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City at 2.7 million, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica at 2.54 million.
The latest entry in the series, Resident Evil 4, is a remake of 2005’s game of the same name, featuring “over-the-shoulder” third-person shooter gameplay akin to the original. It incorporates design elements from the remakes of Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 3 (2020). The remake includes updated visuals for a more intense atmosphere, along with new character designs and environments. It features six control schemes, including one resembling the original game. Puzzles are occasionally required for the player to make progress through the story. In certain sequences, the protagonist, Leon, is required to safeguard the president’s daughter, Ashley.
Unlike in the original, Leon can now move and use weapons simultaneously, facilitating evasion while firing and reloading on the go. Melee attacks are available for injuring and pushing enemies away. A new parrying mechanic allows Leon to block, counterattack, and dispatch downed enemies with his knife. Unlike the original, Leon’s knife has a durability meter; if broken, players must consult the Merchant for repairs or durability enhancement. Multiple types of knives with various attributes can be carried by Leon.
