Pokémon TCG Pocket, the latest mobile adaptation of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, is experiencing a highly successful launch. Reports from app analytics firm AppMagic reveal that the game has generated an impressive $12.1 million in revenue just four days after its October 30 release. With 12 million downloads worldwide, the app is earning around $3 million each day on average, signaling a strong start for The Pokémon Company’s new mobile venture.
As expected, Japan is driving much of Pokémon TCG Pocket’s success, contributing 45 percent of the game’s revenue so far. The U.S. follows as the second-largest market, providing 25 percent of revenue, with smaller contributions from Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, New Zealand, and France. Notably, Pokémon TCG Pocket’s daily revenue is currently outpacing that of Pokémon Go, which brings in about $1 million per day, despite Pokémon Go’s additional revenue streams outside the app itself.
The structure of Pokémon TCG Pocket heavily incentivizes players to engage with the card-opening mechanics, allowing users to open up to two card packs per day for free by building up “Pack Stamina.” Additional packs can be purchased, and further microtransactions offer players options to speed up card acquisition and customize their digital card setup with unique playmats, card folders, and coins.
AppMagic’s revenue and download data indicate a pronounced difference in spending behavior across global regions. Average revenue per download (RpD) sits at $1.61 globally, but there is a sharp contrast between Western and Eastern markets. In Western Tier 1 markets, RpD is $1.24, while in Eastern Tier 1 regions, it rises to an impressive $11.93 per download. This split highlights particularly high spending in countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
From a platform perspective, iOS has dominated the spending landscape, contributing $10.5 million of the total $12.1 million in revenue, while Google Play accounts for the remaining $1.6 million. In terms of downloads, however, Google Play has led with 4.2 million installs compared to iOS’s 3.3 million, indicating a more balanced distribution of downloads across platforms.
Despite the strong start, the long-term performance of Pokémon TCG Pocket remains to be seen. Maintaining this level of daily revenue will be a significant challenge, as is typical for mobile games that rely heavily on in-app purchases. However, the game’s initial numbers suggest that it has already captured a sizable and highly engaged audience.
