A brand new entry in the Burnout arcade racing game series may be in development using Unreal Engine 5, based on the latest information.

Stellar Entertainment dropped a few hints on its official Twitter/X account regarding the game it is currently working on, and all signs point towards a brand new entry in the Burnout series. The tweet mentioned the term “take down”, a game mechanic that is often associated with the arcade racing game franchise.

In the tweet, the developer stated that it wanted to share what it is currently working on, without actually stating what it is working on. The accompanied screenshot stated, “POV: You’re about to be rear ended”, further suggesting that it the studio is working on a new Burnout title.

Additionally, a number of job listings on the company’s official website confirm that Stellar Entertainment is indeed working on an arcade racing game. The project description states that the studio is currently working on an unannounced AAA project. It is an arcade racing title being built in Unreal Engine 5 for current-gen consoles and PC, lending further credibility to the idea that it is a new entry in the Burnout series. The developer is said to be pushing the boundaries of all aspects of the game to create an “incredible” experience.

The previous entry in the Burnout series, Burnout Paradise, is an arcade racing game from 2008 that was developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts. It was originally released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. The game is set in the fictional “Paradise City,” an open world where players participate in various races and online modes like “Cops and Robbers.” Future updates added features like a time-of-day cycle and motorcycles, while paid downloadable content introduced new cars and the fictional “Big Surf Island.”

A remastered version, Burnout Paradise Remastered, was released on March 16, 2018, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on August 21 for Windows via EA’s Origin platform. Later in June 19, 2020, it was also made available for the Nintendo Switch. The game includes all DLC (except the Time Savers Pack) and supports higher-resolution displays.
