A Naughty Dog developer has hinted at the Sony Interactive Entertainment first party studio’s next project being a brand new IP.
The Linkedin profile of Colin Lorimer, Story Artist at Naughty Dog, mentions that he is currently working on the studio’s new IP. No further details regarding the project were mentioned in his resume. The illustrator’s recent
Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog, had shared during a recent episode of Kinda Funny’s Spoilercast discussion that the studio had undergone restructuring to facilitate the simultaneous development of multiple game projects, whether they are new IPs, sequels, or a combination of both. He highlighted the studio’s expanded team of producers, game directors, and writers, emphasizing the improved organization compared to the past.
In reference to the upcoming major game from the studio, Druckmann confirmed its ongoing development. Despite acknowledging fan requests for The Last of Us Part 3, he revealed that the concept for the new project has already been chosen. This decision, made collectively by the entire studio, aims to maintain enthusiasm within the development team for the upcoming years.
Previously, in response to a tweet that criticized the lack of development of new IPs from Naughty Dog, VGC editor Jordan Miller stated that, based on what his source told him, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was more of a project for new hires to get them up to speed with the development process at the studio. He added that game director Neil Druckmann and his team are well into the development of an original title. It’s hard to say whether this original title is one of the projects Druckmann referred to during his interview. According to Miller, the existence of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered does not take away from the development process of the unannounced original title. He didn’t have anything further to add regarding the aforementioned title, however.
