Lies of P developer Neowiz Games is pleased with the outcome of its collaboration with Microsoft for the game’s inclusion in the Xbox Game Pass catalog.
Speaking during an interview (via), Lies of P director Jiwon Choi at Neowiz Games described the collaboration with Microsoft for the game’s inclusion in Xbox Game Pass as one of the “best” options for the studio to get the game into the hands of a large community of players.
Choi mentioned that the Xbox team ran a wide range of marketing campaigns for Lies of P, which undoubtedly helped in bringing the game to people’s attention. He refrained from offering any specific numbers, but mentioned that a “huge” number of people have played through Lies of P on Xbox Game Pass. He believes that both Neowiz Games and Microsoft earned a very good outcome from the collaboration.
Lies of P is a Soulslike action role-playing game that was released on September 19, 2023, for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The third-person game is loosely based on the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Players assume control of Pinocchio, a unique robotic puppet with the ability to lie. As the puppet, players will explore the city of Krat, battle biomechanical enemies with weapons like swords and axes, and use the various gadgets available via his mechanical arm. The weapon and crafting system offers 30 different weapon types with 100 combinations.
The game includes a “Lying System” where player decisions impact the story, leading to three different endings. Puppets, originating in the city of Krat due to the discovery of a revolutionary power source called Ergo, became widespread, performing tasks for the population. Puppet inventors, including Lorenzini Venigni and Geppetto, created Pinocchio. To prevent puppet threats, a Grand Covenant bound them, prohibiting lying or attacking humans. Despite this, puppets revolted, massacring most of Krat’s human population. Puppets communicate in their own language, revealed as blurred English text during boss fights against enemy puppets.
