According to early industry reports, Ghost of Yotei has achieved an impressive commercial debut, reportedly selling 1.3 million copies on its first day. This figure, shared by insider Millie A on Twitter/X, places it slightly ahead of Ghost of Tsushima, which sold 1.25 million copies within its first 24 hours in 2020.
Millie A noted, “Hearing, 1.3 million sold on first day for Yōtei. Ever so slightly ahead of Tsushima’s first 24 hours of 1.25 million. Tsushima kept pace on its second day with another 1.15 million sold. Can Yōtei keep up?” While these figures remain unofficial, they suggest that Sucker Punch Productions’ latest release is already resonating strongly with players.
Ghost of Tsushima set a high benchmark upon release, becoming the fastest-selling new first-party PlayStation IP of the PlayStation 4 era by moving 2.4 million units in its first three days. Over the years, the samurai epic continued its momentum, reaching more than 13 million copies sold as of September 2024 across PlayStation and PC platforms. Its success established Sucker Punch as a leading studio within Sony’s first-party portfolio.
The sequel, Ghost of Yotei, launched exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025. Set in 1603 in Ezo, Japan, the game follows Atsu, an onna-musha warrior seeking revenge against the Yotei Six, a group responsible for her family’s death.
The early sales performance of Ghost of Yotei suggests that the franchise may once again become one of PlayStation’s most successful original properties. The question now is whether the sequel can maintain its momentum beyond its strong launch and build upon the long-term sales legacy of its predecessor.
