Dying Light 2 developer Techland has shared some details on the free PS5 and Xbox Series upgrade, cross-play, and co-op support for the game.
Dying Light 2 will offer a free upgrade from PS4 to PS5. This applies to the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions. Anyone who has purchased the game on the last-generation consoles will be able to upgrade to the current-generation consoles for free. The same is the case for the Xbox Series version which will be offered as part of the Smart Delivery. This means you won’t have to look for an upgrade to the game and it will be automatically installed on your Xbox consoles.
Will Dying Light 2 Support Cross-Play and Co-Op?
Techland has confirmed that there is no support for cross-play when it comes to online multiplayer. This means that you won’t be able to play with PS4 users if you are gaming on the PS5, and similarly, PS4 or PS5 users won’t be able to play with Xbox One or Xbox Series users. The same applies to the PC version of the game.
Here are some details on how the co-op mode will work in the game.
- Besides the prologue, Dying Light 2 Stay Human will be fully playable in co-op – this also includes finishing the game
- All session guests can keep their gained items and player’s progression
- Important choices in the game will be made by all players through voting, but it will be the host of the session who has the final choice
While initially there won’t be any support for cross-play at launch. Techland did suggest that it might be added with an update after launch.
