Bungie has officially unveiled Destiny 2: Renegades, a new expansion set to launch on December 2, 2025, marking the next chapter in the ongoing Fate Saga. Inspired by themes and aesthetics drawn from the Star Wars universe, Renegades places Guardians in the role of underdogs defying the Vanguard as they follow the Drifter into the shadowy dealings of the galaxy. The expansion introduces the Barant Imperium, a Cabal faction suspected to be linked to the Nine, while blending Destiny’s trademark storytelling with a grittier, outlaw-inspired tone.
A new ViDoc titled Infiltrating the Lawless Frontier provided the first deep look at the expansion’s features. The Lawless Frontier introduces a new mode where Guardians can take on high-risk jobs such as smuggling, bounty hunting, and sabotage, spread across three planets and six locations inspired by iconic Star Wars settings. Players will also gain access to upgradeable Renegade abilities unique to the mode, while building influence with Syndicate factions through the Notoriety system. A new weapon archetype, the Blaster, channels the Star Wars influence most directly with energy-based mechanics and a heat management system. Invasion, a new opt-in feature, raises the stakes by letting other Guardians interfere mid-mission for greater risks and rewards.
Renegades also introduces Tharsis Outpost, a new social hub, and expands the arsenal with new gear, Exotics, and reputation rewards. The Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition, which includes both The Edge of Fate and Renegades campaigns, the Desert Perpetual raid, and a new dungeon, is now available for pre-order. Early purchasers will receive exclusive items such as the Renegade Leader Exotic ship, Starside Introduction emblem, the Exotic Sniper Rifle New Land Beyond, and the Enneachord Exotic Sparrow.
Alongside the announcement, Bungie also launched Ash & Iron, the first major update in the Year of Prophecy and free for all players. The update returns Guardians to the Plaguelands, where Maya Sundaresh’s experiments resurface as the driving narrative. The update features Reclaim, a new three-player Fireteam Ops activity centered on scavenging Golden Age tech against waves of Cabal and Vex enemies. The Rewards Pass for The Edge of Fate has also been refreshed with 110 new ranks, including a Strand Exotic Pulse Rifle, armor ornaments, and more.
Looking ahead, The Desert Perpetual Epic raid launches on September 27 with new challenges and Bungie Rewards. A new Exotic mission arrives October 7, focusing on a Warmind bunker and Maya Sundaresh’s ties to the Vex and Cabal. Seasonal festivities will continue with the return of Festival of the Lost on October 21, while the Call to Arms event runs from November 11 through December 1, offering PvP activities, cosmetics, and seasonal gear.
With Renegades pushing Destiny 2 into bold, sci-fi outlaw territory and Ash & Iron laying the groundwork for the Year of Prophecy, Bungie is setting the stage for one of the game’s most ambitious years yet.
