Revolution Software may be developing a remaster of Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror. The studio hinted at it during a showcase on their official account.
The Reforged edition of Shadow of the Templars revitalized the original 1996 classic by adding 4K backgrounds, re-animated sprites, enhanced audio, and more. Released in September for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation—and later for the Nintendo Switch—the remaster received a warm reception for its faithful yet refreshed take on George Stobbart and Nicole Collard’s conspiracy-laden adventure. Encouraged by this success, Revolution Software appears ready to extend the same treatment to The Smoking Mirror.
The hint came during Revolution’s recent Christmas recap video, where studio head Charles Cecil sifted through concept art for Shadow of the Templars Reforged. Toward the end of the video, Cecil revealed designs for George Stobbart’s iconic shorts-and-sunglasses outfit from The Smoking Mirror, worn during his exploration of Quaramonte, a Central American town central to the sequel’s story. Accompanied by a knowing shrug to the camera, Cecil left little doubt about the studio’s intentions.
It won’t be surprising to see the studio remaster the second game, given the success of their efforts with the first one. It’s only a matter of when they will make such an announcement. Considering the studio is currently focused on developing the sixth game in the franchise, fans may have to wait a while for this news. Nevertheless, they can be assured that their favorite franchise is alive and well, with a brand-new sixth entry in development and a remaster or remake of the second game also in the pipeline, expected to continue through 2025.
