Absolum Trailer Highlights Combat and Story Ahead of October Launch

GIStaffBy GIStaffSeptember 19, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

A new trailer for Absolum, an upcoming fantasy beat ’em up, was released on September 18, offering a closer look at its combat mechanics, character abilities, and setting. The game, developed by Dotemu in collaboration with Guard Crush Games and Supamonks, is scheduled to launch on October 9 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.

The footage focuses on the game’s four central characters: Galandra, Karl, Cider, and Brome. Each character features unique abilities that players can experiment with during solo or cooperative play, which will be available both locally and online. Combat is structured around timing, guard breaks, and the use of special abilities, with additional customization provided by elemental buffs and purchasable upgrades.

The trailer also reveals a new environment described as a lush, monster-filled region guarded by a boss encounter. Players will encounter enemies such as Gnolls, a recurring threat in the game’s world. The title incorporates branching pathways, quests, and a range of shop items and builds, with progression designed around replayable runs.

Absolum is set in the world of Talamh, where the ruler known as Sun King Azra seeks to dominate all magic following a catastrophic event. The narrative follows a group of rebels empowered by mystical allies, opposing Azra’s rule while uncovering the source of his growing power. Developers have indicated that story progression will be tied to character upgrades, quests, and permanent unlocks obtained across multiple playthroughs.

The game draws on the legacy of arcade-era brawlers such as Golden Axe while incorporating modern systems to expand replay value. Animation studio Supamonks collaborated on the project, contributing to character design and world-building. The soundtrack will feature original music by Gareth Coker, with contributions from composers including Mick Gordon, Yuka Kitamura, and Motoi Sakuraba.

Dotemu and Guard Crush Games are recognized for their previous work on Streets of Rage 4 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, two titles credited with helping revive the beat ’em up genre in recent years. Absolum aims to extend that trend by combining action-focused gameplay with narrative-driven elements.

Absolum launches worldwide on October 9. A playable demo has not been announced, though more details are expected closer to release.
