Star Wars Outlaws Sales Estimated at 1 Million, Falling Short of Ubisoft’s Expectations

JoelBy JoelOctober 2, 20242 Comments2 Mins Read

Sales figures for Star Wars Outlaws have reportedly been disclosed, and they suggest a significant setback for Ubisoft. According to the report, the game has sold only around one million units, making it a major financial disappointment for the company.

Given the vast potential of the Star Wars franchise, which has seen success in gaming through titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Battlefront, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws is surprising. Despite Ubisoft’s massive scale and resources, the game has struggled to gain traction, managing to sell just one million copies. While this figure might be acceptable for a smaller or mid-budget game, it is far below expectations for a large-scale project of this magnitude.

Ubisoft has acknowledged the game’s poor sales performance. In a recent financial update, the company admitted that Star Wars Outlaws had underperformed, referring to its sales as “softer than expected.” However, Ubisoft did not provide specific sales figures at that time. The current report, indicating around one million copies sold across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X, confirms the extent of the shortfall.

When compared to other Star Wars games, the situation looks even worse. For example, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a critical and commercial success, and even the spin-off Star Wars: Squadrons outperformed Outlaws, opening with stronger sales in key markets such as the UK.

The success of the Star Wars Jedi series, developed by Respawn Entertainment, stands in stark contrast to Ubisoft’s handling of Star Wars Outlaws. Both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, were among the best-selling games of their respective launch years, with news of a third installment in development. Meanwhile, Ubisoft’s track record has been marred by this recent failure, following another disappointing launch with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
