Insomniac Is Busy With Marvel’s Wolverine, Confirms No Sunset Overdrive Remaster

Insomniac Games has confirmed that they have no plans to port or remaster Sunset Overdrive for the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. The studio is currently focused on their upcoming project, Marvel’s Wolverine.

Sunset Overdrive was one of the early exclusive titles for the Xbox One, developed by Insomniac Games at a time when the studio was not yet a first-party developer for Sony. Released at the start of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 generation, the game received positive reviews and has since garnered a cult following. Despite its popularity, Insomniac Games has clarified that they will not be bringing the game to PlayStation consoles.

In a recent interaction with fans on Twitter/X, Insomniac Games responded to requests for a PS4/PS5 port of Sunset Overdrive by stating that their focus is currently on Marvel’s Wolverine. This game, which has only been teased with a short trailer, is anticipated to release in 2025.

Insomniac has been actively supporting the PlayStation 5 with several high-profile releases, including a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, a spin-off featuring Miles Morales, and the new Ratchet and Clank game, Rift Apart. Given their busy schedule and commitment to developing new titles for the PS5, it is understandable that they do not have the resources to revisit older projects like Sunset Overdrive.

Sunset Overdrive takes place in a make-believe city called Sunset City in the year 2027. In the game, you play as a FizzCo employee fighting against mutants called OD, who became that way after drinking FizzCo’s energy drink. The game focuses on fast movement and lets you run on walls, slide on zip lines, and grind on rails while fighting with lots of different weapons.

While the possibility of a Sunset Overdrive port for PlayStation remains unlikely for now, fans of Insomniac Games can look forward to their upcoming titles and continued support for the PS5.
